Again, cool, but not amazing. Then, I got a bunch of near misses like these...It's almost like a bolt of lightning, but obscure... hmm.
Then, I got a few of these: Again, groovy, but...
Mommy Mo's house with a cool sky...
So I gave up for a while. Went inside to watch some TV and relax. A little later on the storm had moved above us and I could hear the thunder now and see much more lightning. So, I headed back outside. I caught a couple of neat shots with clear streaks in them. Not bad.
And then I got the shot I was waiting for. A full, true streak of lightning. This was my last shot of the night because by then I was soaked with rain and my camera was getting wet and the rain was about to really open up. It was my last chance and I got it. I don't know how much detail you can see, but I am very pleased with it. The split goes from one side of the house to the other and it is crystal clear.
Sometimes it seems like I have to work so hard for a great shot. Then I remember how many times I've worked so hard for a crappy shot. I'm glad this one turned out the way I wanted. I would have stayed out there all night, I think, if the rain hadn't come on so strong and made it impossible. I will definitely try my hand at this again.

That last picture is GREAT! Fantastic shot, Amanda.
Did you check out my last blog, the photo shoot of my friend Linda? I asked my yahoo photo group to critique those photographs. I will be photographing a family later this month and a wedding in March. I want and need to improve on my photo-taking abilities. The most frequent comment was to use fill flash. I had my external flash unit with me that day, but didn't use it. I was able to shoot with the desired f-stop and shutter speed. I didn't think I needed a flash. That flash unit doesn't get used a lot because its bells and whistles intimidate me. I plan to do more practice photo shoots over the next few days. I'll use the flash and see what happens. In your blog post you mentioned it takes hard work to get the shot you want. When you photograph more than snapshots, photography is all hard work!
How awesome.
Holy cow, I think all of them are great! Seriously.
Thanks so much, guys!
