I didn't get around to this until yesterday and even then, it was pretty late. I shot these of my son and the fort that he has been building with the neighborhood kids. It was dark, so I used a 20 second exposure and popped a little flash on him to make him show up. I have a better lighting shot of him, but he kept closing his eyes so I went with this one. He is pretty rustic. So is the fort.

These are the cedar trees in the fort. It was windy last night so the longer exposure gives it a funky look that I just liked, so I went with it. I did pop a tiny bit of flash on this as well to show a hint of the green in the branches.

These are the old fence boards from our last house. The boys are using them to make the walls of their fort. It's so cool.

This one was shot at the Austin Tea Party yesterday. But this lady just cracked me up. I took a lot of shots of the signs people carried because some of them were just hilarious.

That's quite a fort! How nice that they'll have someplace to call their own.
I like the old fence sticks
How exciting to make your own fort with posts from a house that you lived in! Great captures.
Tom looks quite proud of his work! I have to say I'm impressed! I love the shot of the trees best! Very cool! And the sign is great!
Okay, I'm a little bit of a camera novice. What do you mean you gave the flash a little "pop"?
My favorite is the trees in the wind all swirly. Although the pride in your son's face sitting in the fort is pretty cool also.
forts and boys - they just go hand-in-hand :O) looks like a fun thing to be building. and all your shots turned out great. and, yes, i love the granny terrorist person - wow! thanks for sharing her picture :O).
feel free to stop by my page at The Shadow of the Cross and check out my rustic post. see you next week, (if i can think of anyone to photograph for 'letters')
Popping the flash means that I took it off of the camera, set it to manual mode, reduced the output and held it up (out of the frame, of course- done that before, duh!) and flashed the scene. I did it with the photo of my son as well for two reasons. One, he would not have been lit well enough by a 20 sec exposure because it was really dark. Two, he doesn't stay still enough for long exposures. No one does, really, but he did well. As long as the subject stays fairly still, you can use the flash to 'freeze' them in a long exp such as this. It's kind of fun, you might try it.
Great fort and great shots!
I really like the tree one! Lots!
I love the fort!
boys and their forts...love it!
