Waning moon.

Last night the moon was full and the sky was hazy so I couldn't get a clear full moon. But, tonight is gorgeous and I like how you can see the craters along the edge...
I love the moon. I really do. I especially love it when it is closest to the earth, which it was this weekend.

I wish I had a camera that could take a picture like this. I tried miserably with my little crappy camera - it's not good at night...or I need a tripod...or something.

Actually, you can take a good shot of it with just about any camera- you just have to know a little bit more than you do and be able to manually control your camera.
Here's what you need to know: the moon is lit by the sun, so it is considered in full sun. That means that you need to set your camera for full sun (or side lit, if it's not a full moon) - f/16 at 1/ISO. You may want a tripod if you have a long lens(highly recommended) or unsteady hands, but your shutter speed is the same as for daytime. Your sky will be black, though, no matter how pretty it is, if you want the moon properly exposed at night.

unless you can do HDR... but don't make me jealous just yet...

That would explain why my bedroom had so much light in the middle of the night.

I love the picture!
